Welcome to The Foundation

I wrote Dismantling Religion because truth does not need protection from questions. You do not have to agree with the claims in this forum. You do need to test them. Each discussion takes one inherited Christian assumption, puts Scripture, history, language, and lived experience on the table, and asks what follows if the evidence points somewhere unexpected.

Read critically. Bring counterevidence. Tell us where the argument holds—and where it does not.

What if Revelation’s first heaven and first earth passed through historical catastrophe rather than cosmic annihilation? Between 1100 and 1300, the planet endured an extraordinary convergence of eruptions, seismic disaster, drought, famine, atmospheric darkness, and rapid cooling. Ice cores show one of the most volcanically disrupted periods of the last 2,500 years; Samalas alone was the largest confirmed eruption in roughly 7,000 years. The Little Ice Age followed. Dismantling Religion argues that this was the physical signature of Revelation 21’s transition—the old world changing state, not the universe ceasing to exist. A claim that large deserves a large body of evidence. So let’s put the chronology, geology, and text on the same table.

Before we walk through it: Name the assumption you brought with you. Then test whether the evidence lets you keep it.

The Argument

  • Ice-core records (Nature, 2015 and 2023) confirm 1100-1300 AD had the most densely packed cluster of major volcanic eruptions in the past 2,500 years, including the 1257 Samalas eruption — the larg...
  • At least 15 major earthquakes struck the Eastern Mediterranean during this period, with the 1201 AD quake killing an estimated 1.1 million people, splitting seas, and raising new mountains — making the likely magnitude >9.
  • The Greek verb parelthen (παρῆλθεν) means 'to change from one state to another,' not 'to annihilate' — confirmed by BDAG lexicon — so Revelation 21:1 describes a covenantal transition, not cosmic d...

Key Scriptures

  • Revelation 21:1
  • 2 Peter 3:10
  • Matthew 24:29

Over to You

Which geological or textual link most strongly supports the 1100–1300 horizon—and what evidence would falsify the connection?
